Stop Pushing yourself so Damn Hard

You’re not being as productive as you think you are.

For years, I constantly pushed myself to go a little further than before. I’d have to beat my work-out time the day before or have to write more words than I did last week or had to work more hours to make more money. I was always pushing myself to get more things done until I couldn’t push myself anymore.

Migraines, something that I’ve had for years became such a problem that I couldn’t push myself, even in the slightest. I still tried, of course I still tried, but it didn’t work. I’d always end up sick and regretting trying to fit in 30 hours of work into 14 hours. Because isn’t that how everyone else works? In an angry, stressed out wild ball of a mess? Hilariously enough, I was trying to get things done quicker so I’d have more time to relax, more time to do fun things.

I mean, yeah, that sounds like a problem for me, but what if you don’t have any illnesses or issues? Shouldn’t you keep pushing yourself to do better? Isn’t that why we all love motivation? To become better people?

Well, sure. And, also, no.

Pushing yourself to the absolute brink isn’t going to do your mind and body any favours. It’s great to stay motivated and reach a little further than you did yesterday, banging out more…
