Screw Minimalism

When did having possessions become so negative?

With the resurgence of old school stylings (grandmillennial style), the materialistic living rooms, embellished decor, and in-your-face wallpaper is becoming trendy. Yep, that old-school grandma style is coming back into place, which means she still doesn’t have to update her house. I guess waiting 50 years for something to come back in style really does work.

We’ve all seen the expertly curated instagram shoots and blog posts on how we can all, and should, live off of a few times in our closet. Quality over quantity, of course.

While I agree with the quality thing (I mean, have you ever bought anything from Forever 21? Complete and total garbage ready to rip in one single wear), the minimalist type of dressing? Naw. Not for me.

I want them big jackets, brocade shirts, chill t-shirts, elegant legwear, fun dresses. And, I want them in all types of shapes and colours. I want dressing in the morning to feel exciting and fun rather than utilitarian and boring.

It’s great to have a uniform to stick to (mine is classic chic with a twist. See: pearls and patterned tights with sneakers…cute ones, not fugly reeboks that have all Dads rejoicing everywhere right now), but it’s also fun to step out of the box and into something…dazzling.
