Medium Isn’t Where I go to Make Money

Medium is a weird little place. There are pieces that are just there to grab headlines and make money, giving you nothing of value, and there are pieces that bare the soul and grab your attention, and then, of course, there are the pieces are sit somewhere in between. All of these are mixed up together in a interesting little world where you can click on anything you desire and get slammed in the face with how to make x amount of money on Medium or sit and cry in front of your phone, laptop, or tablet. It doesn’t matter if you’re a good writer, a great writer, or complete garbage — everyone is mixed in with one another here and most are competing for the same thing.

Making money on Medium was never my original goal. When I first wrote on Medium, years and years ago, I was doing so as a ghostwriter and had no idea what Medium was. I didn’t care because someone was paying me to write and post things on Medium and that’s all that mattered. Later, I found this nifty little platform when I wanted to write my own things and they didn’t quite fit on my blog and I didn’t want to ghostwrite them away. So, I popped on and put up my first post and found something exciting. I was making money! It was $3, but then the next month it turned to $10, and then it kept growing, albeit slowly.
